Ah yes, hobbies. Everyone has one at least. I have alot of them, when I'm not in school, I usually have my head stuck in a book, or when I'm not doing that, I'm usually working on a puzzle or on a paint by number. In fact, I'm actually working on a puzzle, it's an Ed Hardy one, it looks like a tattoo of this Japanese geisha girl, And after I finish this one, I want to get one of The Beatles, I seen 3 I want to get and The Beatles White Album isn't one of them, they actually made a puzzle out of this, but the ones I want to get is The Beatles' Yellow Submarine puzzle, The Revolver album one, and the Let It Be album one.
Oh man, you should have been with me, my mom, stepdad and my sister right before Christmas. We were out at the mall because my mom and stepdad were trying to get ideas of what to get me and my sis for Christmas. They were both thinking about getting us puzzles and we went into this one place and it was a puzzle store, my sister wanted to get an Ed Hardy puzzle or a Gothic puzzle, so we ask this lady at the front desk if she can help, so she asks what kind of puzzle she's looking for and she says Gothic, so this lady takes her over to this shelf with Gothic fairy puzzles, and it's not what's she's looking for, so the woman asks her what music she listens to, and somehow she takes us over to where they have all these Beatles and John Lennon puzzles. It actually took me and my mom to convince this lady that she's not a Fab Four fan, I'm more of a fan of The Beatles than she is. We actually had to tell this woman"Lady, she doesn't like The Beatles or John Lennon, get it through your head!" This lady must have been dumber than a sack of rocks.
But anyway, when it comes to hobbies, I do pretty much anything creative, from reading books, to writing short stories, to painting paint by numbers, to doing puzzles. I like to do creative stuff because it keeps me busy. If I don't have a good book to read or a paint by number to do, I'm bored easily. When I was in high school, in my English class, we had this one assignment where we had to write a short story for our portfolio thing. I wrote one about these 2 cops investigating a mysterious murder in the South. Wasn't too bad, the teacher chose a few and mine was one of them to publish in a creative writing contest, won $200 on it, but it went right in the bank.
But when it comes to hobbies, I have alot. And as for interests, I have alot. One of them is foreign languages. I'd love to learn a few more, I'm quite fluent in Spanish, mainly because I had to take it to graduate from high school, but I thoroughly enjoyed learning this language. Unfortunately, my fellow graduates hated learning this language. They called it 'gay'. That's another thing, I hate when people use the word gay to say stupid. All they do is make themselves sound stupider. They don't understand what the word means. But anyway, learning foreign languages is an interest I have. I'd love to learn Italian, Chinese, Japanese, German and maybe Russian, a friend of mine says that I'm nuts for wanting to learn how to speak, read and write some of the most difficult languages in the known world, but I told her, I want to learn it. Another interest of mine is world cultures. Chinese and Japanese culture is so endlessly fascinating to me, all the little traditions, customs, and history related to that fascinates me. That probably explains why I'd love to go to China and Japan some day. And if possible, maybe live there. There are about 4 places that I would love to live in:
1. China: the culture fascinates me, so does the history, traditions, customs, and plus 2 of favorite actors are Chinese, Jet Li and Chow Yun-fat. So that shows I appreciate Asian culture.
2. Japan: same reason as China, the history, customs, traditions and culture fascinate me.
3. Australia: If I could live here, it would have to be 1 of 3 places along the coast; Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney. They re right near the ocean and every night you can see the sun set over the ocean and every morning you can see the sun rise over the ocean, totally romantic.
4. London, England. For some reason, I'd love to live here because the culture here seems so similar to ours, but it has that feeling of being interesting. The only obstacle I'd have with that is the currency issue, from what I hear, the currency isn't dollars there, it's pounds, quid, etc. But the fun part part would be getting to learn how to adjust to that. I'd enjoy every second of learning about it.

Merry Mas!
See what I did there? I took the "Christ" out of "Christmas" -- literally.
Because I'm a godless liberal waging war on Christmas, I have no choice but to take this step. And I'm not at all sorry to have to do it.
Simply, the right is right. Conservatives talk incessantly, belligerently, about this war on Christmas, and I've come to believe it.
So -- ye liberals, ye progressives, ye socialists, ye leftists of all stripes. To battle!
**********
Actually, back in the real world, there's no such war at all, just greater appreciation for difference and greater celebration of diversity.
And I do celebrate Christmas, just without the religion -- the way it can be in our modern liberal society, and, on those terms, I really like this time of the year, just as I did when I was growing up.
And it's been a nice, quiet day here at home. "Santa" came last night, the kids are happy, I've been watching the Diners, Drive-ins & Dives marathon on the Food Network, and now I'm just about to go make dinner.
So, yes, a Merry Christmas to you all, and Happy Holidays.
Whatever and however you celebrate, I hope you're having a lovely day.
Be safe and take care of one another.
**********
It'll be relatively quiet here at The Reaction over the next few days, but I'm sure we'll get some new posts up now and then, so keep checking back.
Talk to you later.

Barack Obama and the War on Christmas
Photo from The Globe and Mail: "US President Barack Obama gives a high-five to a girl named Malia, like his daughter, after reading the book Twas the Night Before Christmas, to students at Long Branch Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia, during a surprise visit."
Christmas? Christmas?!
What the hell is the president of the United States doing reading Christian propaganda to a group of easily-indoctrinated kids? Isn't he a Muslim? Or a Marxist? Or a godless liberal? Isn't he on our side?
How are we supposed to win this war if Obama himself is fighting for the theocrats?
And you conservatives out there, you've long suspected Obama of being a Khmer Rouge-style re-educator. How do you feel now that he's on your side? Happy?
You should be. Next thing you know Obama will go to church on Christmas and claim to be a man of faith.

Anyone love Ross like I do?
Okay, so.
Took the youngling to work today and I've got this list of stuff that I have to buy for other people.
My mom wants me to shop for gifts for my stepdad from her.
My stepdad wants me to pick up some things for her from him.
Mom wants me to shop for gifts for the kiddo from her.
I love shopping. I love just walking around even when I don't have any money to spend, but the best ever is shopping on someone else's dime. That's like the cats meow!
So anyhoo, on the way home, I'm kinda looking around cuz I don't go out to that part of town very often, not real sure what's there. I see the sign for Ross. Heard of it, but never been there.
Unbelievably, my stepdad is the ONLY one who knows EXACTLY what he wants.
A bottle of Chanel No. 5. The real stuff, not cologne, but p.a.r.f.u.m. to the tune of about $100 an ounce.
A robe.
Sound simple right? The robe I mean. I got the Chanel off eBay for $86 with free shipping. The robe though? A whole nother story. My mom is about 5'9". So robes are always too short. Plus, she only wants one that zips up. Has to have cuffs. No little split at the bottom, and a collar. Not picky at all. Riiiight. Oh and light colors are bad. Has to be dark. Blue, Black, Red, doesn't like green or purple.
Not simple. Can't find one anywhere. So I figured I'd try Ross.
Well, I'm enthralled now. In love. In lust. In way over my head cuz I have no money at all to spend, not a dollar, not a dime, not even two pennies to rub together and make a squeaky sound. We have, are you ready? $13 in the bank to last til the end of the month. Ugh. Hello mayo sammiches.
Anyhoo, I found Mom some REALLY cute stuff to give my youngling for Christmas. A set of Aubrey Hepburn coasters, one of those really frilly mannequin type jewelry holders with a to. die. for. dress on, and an Aubrey Hepburn 2011 planner. All of this was approximately 15.00. Needless to say my Mom loves me right now.
Spent the whole afternoon there which is why I'm only now getting around to telling you guys all about it. THEN when I went to pick the youngling up from work, I took her. She fell in love with it too. I could literally walk around there for hours just looking and wishing.
They've got the most fantabulous home furnishing section and I might have to go back to take pictures just so I can show you guys all the beautiful stuffies I found!
So, the kiddo got her Dad (edited since he's going to be reading this) which he is going to L.O.V.E. and she got a new pair of shoes for herself with her first paycheck. She picked up a gorgeous elephant to give her paternal grandparents and a box of blue gummy whales for the sorry horrid boyfriend which I still pretend isn't so sorry and horrid.
Spent two hours there with her so now I'm finally home, have neglected you guys horribly today and now I'm exhausted! But in a good way! So that was my day, first really exciting day I've had in a while and now I need a serious nap!
So have you guys been to Ross? Did you love it too?

Mommy Madness - Christmas Favorites!
- Decorating! I love decorating. I've got Christmas lampshades, figurines galore, candles, even the dreaded Christmas sweaters, that I pretty much refuse to wear anymore, because the only time you can get away with wearing old lady clothes is when you're NOT an old lady! I put garland on everything, from the mailbox and lightpost, to the banisters and light fixtures inside.
- Kisses! No, not those, the Hershey's kisses. All the fab flavors they come out with during the holidays. This year I tried the cherry ones! So much better than the chocolate covered cherries!
- Christmas Music! I adore Christmas music. Except when you work in the mall for 14 hours a day from Halloween until January. Then it just sucks, but I don't so I do!
- Candles! I love candles all the time, but there is O.N.E. that I adore. I had a whole case of them that I bought from Home Interiors when it was still Home Interiors years and years ago and every year I've burned one. I think it's Cranberry Peppermint or something, but this year I'm on my last one so I haven't lit it yet. I'll wait til Christmas day!
- Staying home! Yes, finally! This year the in-laws are coming here, so I can enjoy Christmas morning, then a nap, then a visit, then a nap, then some lazy time, then a nap.
- Riding around seeing everyone else's decorations. The lights at the James Center make me feel all warm and fuzzy and that's how you're supposed to feel at Christmas right?
- Candles in the windows. Love them! Leave them on all the time even when they make it hard for me to sleep.
- Snow! I so hope we get snow for Christmas this year!
- Spending the day with my husband and youngling. They're my loves and my life.
I'm sure there are things I'm forgetting, but that's what I can think of at the moment. Usually I'd put gifts on the list, but there won't be any of those this year. We've managed to do a little something for the past three years, but our finances are at an all time low. Trying to keep the house from being foreclosed on and the utilities all turned on continues to be a struggle and I've pulled about every miracle I can out of the hat. We've cashed out retirement plans, used all our savings account, I've even sold anything I can stand to be parted with to bring in some extra funds. The guys at the bank look forward to me bringing in rolls of pennies now! Although I am thinking about selling my wedding rings since gold is at an all time high. That would go a long way to helping out and then maybe I'd have a little bit extra for a Christmas present for the kiddo!
I'm holding out for an insurance payment for $1500 that they are dicking around with, trying to come up with any reason possible to not pay it, and hopefully (fingers crossed) my disability will come through soon which would be a pretty big initial payment and a monthly payment that would make the house payment from then on every month. Until then, we'll keep doing what we can, but even that won't keep me from enjoying the holidays. As much as I wish I had some money to spend on a thing or two for her, she's my little angel baby and she understands how it is. I'm so looking forward to the day I can make up for this Christmas and her 18th birthday too when she got zip for the big day!
Anyway, we've learned that Christmas isn't about the "stuff" it's about the time. The spirit. The whole experience of Christmas and that's what matters. That's what we enjoy and that's what I hope for every one of you, my lovely bloggie buddies!

Telling on the Hubs!
Since this is the manly post of the holiday season, there won't be any pin up girls posted in the post.
Wait....maybe there SHOULD be pin up girls in the post if it's a manly post.
Hm....
Oh well, since I'm adding lots of pictures I think we can skip the pretties for now!
I posted some pictures a day or two ago of some of my favorite ornaments on our tree and the hubs said "Thank God you didn't show mine so everyone would know what a geek I was!"
You know what that means right? Without further rambling, here are some of the hubs fave ornaments on our tree!

The infamous sock monkey. The youngling bought it for him so of course it's a fave!
Awww, isn't it cute! He made this in Kindergarten! Okay this is one of MY faves, he'll be mortified it's here.
Funny how he hung these together isn't it? Can you say passion?
Yes my friends, it's the Starship Enterprise. And it plugs in.
Okay, I'm cheating this is another of my faves. But he better love it too!
Yes. Yoda. On my tree.
When we first got married, we made a trip to the Christmas Mouse in Williamsburg. At the time he was all into fantasy, wizards and dragons and such, and we found these little crystal castle ornaments that we both loved. Unfortunately this is the only one that's survived the past twenty years, but it's still beautiful!
He won't admit it, but he loves these guys too! Left to right, Juliet, Skunkbutt and Tango! Oreo was being stuck up! I'll catch him later!
Hope you enjoyed the show!

Dancing with the Stars.... and more!
They sure are bringing on some stupid people on Dancing with the Stars, John Gosselin, Lindsay Lohan, Simon Cowell, who might I add was once upon a time a judge on American Idol. Why can't they bring on interesting people, like Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, or maybe a musician? Personally, I think maybe The Rolling Stones would be an interesting group to see on Dancing with the Stars, seeing Mick doing the tango with someone or seeing Keith do the Salsa dancing or seeing Ron ballroom dance or Charlie ballroom dance, that would be interesting and therefore, I'd watch it. Dancing with the Stars is really going down hill, they're running out GOOD people to have dance there.
And American Idol, pretty cool that they have Steven Tyler from Aerosmith judging. He's way more compassionate and patient than that snob Simon. And at least Steven is a singer. Sometimes I wonder why get a judge who's never had singing experience? Maybe get judges who are patient and some judges who are singers. I like the judges they have, at least they're patient, compassionate and nice.
One thing I've always wondered is why do guys wear their pants so low? I found out the answer from a good friend of mine, her name is Denise and she's from New Jersey. She goes to school with me and Tuesday in class, somehow we all got onto the topic of why guys wear their pants like that and whatnot, and she delightfully told me an interesting tidbit of info. It's a trend started in prison, guys who "put out" in prison wear their pants low to show off what they have and the long t-shirts guys wear, they're supposed to be dresses, almost as if in prison the long shirts are dresses. That stuff means you're some one's "girlfriend" in prison. Even in high school, guys do it. They say stuff like "Yo, what's up dog? how's my homie?" and sometimes I feel tempted to say to them "Dude, pull your pants up, no one wants to look at your black boxers with bananas on them or your red boxers with Christmas trees on them." or "Dude, you're whiter than Texas, you'll never be black, you're not Ice T, you're not Flava Flav, so don't bother" Most black people think it's ridiculous that white kids talk like this, assuming black people talk like this. It ticks me off when people do this, and then they start questioning me about listening to rap music and being like them, I simply tell them I don't care for rap music and I wish to be myself and that I don't wish to change just to fit in. I have 2 friends that I've known for all my life, they work with my dad and they're both black, but I don't see it that way, any way they say it's ridiculous that white kids assume blacks talk this way, they both think it's funny, and this one guy who goes to school with me, his name is Alexander, he's black and he's my best buddy, he don't talk like this, he even thinks it's ridiculous.
And as Christmas draws ever closer, I start to see more commercials for Christmas, showing one of the 7 deadly sins-greed. What is it about Christmas where everyone has to get greedy? Especially the kids, I hear kids saying stuff like "I want this" or "I want that". If I were the parents of some of these kids and they came up to me saying they want a Wii system or XBox 360, I'd tell them when hell freezes over, I'd then tell them to go out, get a job and pay for it yoursefl, you'll appreciate it more, it works for me and has done it for the past 20 years, mainly I babysit and I use the money for something if I need it, recently, I had to save up all my money from it to buy books for school when the morons at the Gateway Financial Aid office in Edgewood didn't process my financial aid paperwork on time. But I just grow tired of seeing all these commercials showing people getting cars, expensive phones, expensive music systems, expensive game systems, etc for Christmas and I wonder to myself, "who the hell can afford something like that?" I could barely afford to do Christmas shopping this year and I see people buying cars and whatnot for people? A few years ago, it seems you never seen commercials like this, they're getting worse every year. What people need to realize is that Christmas is not about the gifts, decorations, how much you can spend, how much you can buy for that undeserving, ungrateful family member, how empty you can make your bank account, it's about the birth of Christ, it's about spending time with family, making special memories, giving rather than recieving and sharing. People seem to have lost sight of this, and they need to regain sight of the true meaning of Christmas. I'm just tired of hearing about people wanting stuff they truly don't need.
And Finally, A Tree Is Born! Or Decorated At Least!
So like most of the world with pre-lit trees we plugged in only to declare disaster.
Not a single light was working. Not even one.
I'm sure it's not because I have a house full of rare tree dwelling felines who not only climb in themselves but coerce their brothers and sisters to join them. I think they might be having catnip parties in there.
But anyway, thankfully (I think) we saw this coming last year. We had to add some lights when we put it up then, and thankfully we had enough to do the whole tree this year since we simply can't afford to buy new lights. Granted it's not the 1200 lights I insisted on the first year the hubby and I were married, but after 21 years, standards seem to change. Not that it's a bad thing, at least now you can actually SEE the ornaments without sunglasses.
I was thinking about it as I was decorating the tree, seeing all the special little ornaments that made me squee, and wondering if I'm just crazy or if everyone has that few special ornaments that just plucking them out of the box makes you feel all happy and giddy inside?
In a test of "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours" I'm gonna be brave and go first. Here are a few of my favorite ornaments on my tree. There are so many others, but these have passed the test of time and remain some of my all time favorites!

This little gal was a gift from one of my best friends from ages ago. It's a bittersweet memory because after we started having kids (me one, her, ummm, four I think?) we lost touch. We tried to rekindle our friendship years later, but it wasn't the same and there was I think still a lot of resentment and animosity between us. I still have beautiful memories of the year I got her though. Every year she would hand craft an ornament for me. Just one, so it was an exciting tradition. I've got several on my tree from her, but this one was always my favorite.
Do I really need to spell out his significance? The proverbial black sheep. I <3 him!
This little guy wasn't nearly as cute when he still had his attachment to hang him on the tree. He became one of my favorites when we had to mount him on a tree limb for him to stay. He's so much cuter this way!
Can you read that? "Deck them halls, ya'll" Makes me smile, and yeah, feel like a really really serious backwoods redneck.
For humor purposes, does it get any better than this? He's one of my faves EVER!
It's my jingle ball! I adore jingle bells. Put them on my shoes every year and drive my hubby insane. One day I'll tell you about the year I opened a huge package, took out a few and left them under the passenger seat in his truck. He was not a happy camper especially when they were still jingling all over in July!
I admit it. I'm a rooster fanatic. Well, maybe not just roosters. Farm animals in general. Have you noticed a theme here with my faves? Hm. I adore this little guy. Nuff said!
And now for the grand finale! The unveiling. Completed tree with most of the lights I wanted and all my family's favorite ornaments filling it to overflowing!
Anyone up for posting some of their favorite ornaments to share? I'd love to see them!
Until later, toodles!

Prelit trees are great....when they're lit.
Yes lovies, my tree is dark.
Without light.
Unlit for sake of a better description.
I have NO idea what I'm gonna do. Maybe roast marshmallows. Make smores. Cry. I'll let you know when I decide.
I have one of those little fixer upper thingies for prelit trees and all we got was a little hint of lights, just enough to make you go Oooooh...noooooo, and then pout.
I think I need an engineer.
Wait. I'm married to one. And he wrestled it for hours last year.
I remember saying last year that maybe we'd have enough money to get a new one this year.
HA!
Not. Guess it's time to go wrestle the beast some more and see if I can coax one more miracle outta this puppy. A tree without lights is like a wet dream without Hugh Jackman, and we all know that'll just never do!
Wish me luck!
Oh and go look at my last post, cuz I'm a proud mama kitty and all! <3
Much love and sweetly blown kisses!
Without light.
